ARK charges constituents on curbing environmental challenges

The Lagos State House of Assembly (LSHA) on Wednesday held its annual Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting simultaneously across the 40 constituencies of Lagos State with the theme “Environmental Challenges: Community Engagement to Facilitate Lasting Solution”.

Hon Adedamola Richard Kasunmu also known by political watchers and followers as ARK, the Ikeja Constitueny 2 representative at the state assembly charged his constituents on the need to support government efforts to curb environmental challenges during his constituent’s town-hall meeting at the Eko FM Multipurpose Hall.

Kasunmu in his keynote address stated that “despite efforts being put in place to sensitise residents on the need to protect the environment, some still prefer to violate the Environmental Law and involve in actions capable of frustrating government’s efforts and huge investment in the sector”.

ARK also noted that “the government in protecting the environment and improving healthy living standards of residents has resulted in the reorganization of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to be proactive towards enforcing, regulating and ensuring improved waste management process. Efforts are also being intensified to ensure that the primary, secondary and tertiary drains are maintained all year round. This will entail constant removal of refuse, vegetal growth and silt from drains for free flow of storm water all across the state” he asserted.

The Chairman Ojodu LCDA Hon Julius Oloro represented by his Vice-Chairman Hon Olubunmi Oluyadi in his opening remark urged residents to support government’s efforts to stricture of environmental challenges for a clean and safe environment.

At the interaction section of the well-attended town hall meeting, notably in attendance were the Chairmen of Community Development Committees from Ikeja local government and Ojodu LCDA, LGA Chairmen of Ikeja and Ojodu of All Progressives Congress Alhaji Dally Adeokun and Engr. Kayode Ajakaye respectively. Vice Chairman Ikeja and Secretary Ikeja Local Government Hon Yomi Mayungbe and Hon Akeem Dauda and other political leaders. Also at the event are traditional and religious leaders and State government functionaries.

All the speakers alluded to the fact that environmental challenges were mostly caused by carelessness of residents of various communities who usually block drainages causing flooding and other environmental hazards. Solutions were also proffered as data was collated for both problematic areas and proffered solutions as recommended by the constituents to the state assembly.

Anifowoshe Community was mostly mentioned for its persistent flooding issues. Hon Kasunmu promised to address the Anifowoshe primary school flooding issue with matter of urgency for the safety of the pupils of the school.

Hon Kasunmu used the occasion to highlights some of his achievements thus far. These includes facilitating employments for members of the constituency. He also facilitated one million naira empowerment for 10 persons with disability in the constituency, among other several rewarding dividend to his Ikeja 2 Constituents.
