The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has hosted leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the council area to an interfaith Iftar and breaking of fast aimed at strengthening unity among party faithful.
The event, held on Monday at the Marriage Registry Hall of the council secretariat in Ikeja Secretariat, brought together APC apex leaders and party members from the six wards of the local government during the ongoing Ramadan fast.
The gathering, the third organised during the holy month, provided an opportunity for Muslim faithful observing the fast to break their fast alongside Christian members of the party in an atmosphere of unity and mutual respect.
Delivering a brief exhortation, Alhaji Yisawu Bature of Ward C emphasised the importance of love, unity and harmony as essential pillars for societal progress. He noted that such values were strongly upheld by the Messenger of God and remain vital for peaceful coexistence and community development.
Speaking at the event, Dauda said the interfaith gathering was conceived to foster closer bonds between Muslims and Christians, stressing that both faiths ultimately worship the same God. He urged political leaders to promote tolerance, love and unity, noting that citizens look up to leaders for direction in building stronger communities and a more progressive society.
The council chairman also commended the party’s apex leaders for their continued guidance and support, which he said had contributed significantly to the progress recorded in governance and party affairs in Ikeja. He further praised APC executives at the local government and ward levels for their cooperation, urging them to sustain the spirit of teamwork in governance and party administration.
Among dignitaries present were the Vice Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Abisola Omisore; APC Ikeja LGA Chairman, Adetoro Adebowale; APC State Assistant Legal Officer, Debola Ladigbolu; members of the Ikeja Local Government Legislative Council led by Ogunseye Rasheed Adisa, as well as several party leaders and stakeholders across the local government.
The evening concluded with prayers for sustained peace, unity and development in Lagos State and Nigeria.
