Ikeja LG Chairman leads officials across Anifowoshe, Awolowo Way, Wards A, E and B as council intensifies war against indiscriminate dumping
The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has led members of the Council’s Executive Team, legislators, environmental officers and other staff on the August edition of the Lagos State Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise.
The exercise saw the Chairman and his team take the campaign for a cleaner Ikeja directly to the streets, beginning from Anifowoshe Ward D, where blocked drainage channels were cleared, refuse removed and public spaces cleaned.
The team subsequently moved through Awolowo Way and proceeded to Wards A, E and B, engaging residents, traders, sanitation personnel and other stakeholders on the need to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
AKOD Warns Environmental Offenders
Speaking during the exercise, Comrade Dauda expressed concern over the persistent practice of dumping refuse into gutters and drainage channels, as well as trading activities that compromise environmental cleanliness.
The Chairman warned that the Council would strengthen monitoring and enforcement, with environmental offenders expected to face stricter fines and sanctions.
“Keeping Ikeja clean is a collective responsibility,” AKOD declared.
He urged residents, traders and business owners to comply with environmental regulations and support the Council’s efforts to keep Ikeja clean, safe and healthy.
The Chairman’s personal participation in the sanitation exercise further demonstrated the administration’s hands-on approach to governance and its determination to address issues that directly affect the wellbeing and quality of life of residents.
The August sanitation exercise is part of the broader environmental management efforts of the Lagos State Government, with Ikeja Local Government reaffirming its commitment to sustaining cleaner streets, functional drainage systems and healthier public spaces across the community.
