The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has charged councillors and grassroots political leaders across Lagos State to close ranks, strengthen collaboration and remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has charged councillors and grassroots political leaders across Lagos State to close ranks, strengthen collaboration and remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections.

AKOD gave the charge while representing the Chairman of the Conference of Chairmen of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, at a meeting of legislative leaders from councils across the state.

The meeting, hosted by Lagos East Local Council Development Area, brought together legislative leaders to review their activities and explore practical ways of improving synergy between the executive and legislative arms of local councils for stronger and more responsive grassroots governance.

Speaking at the gathering, AKOD called for concerted efforts towards the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the emergence of APC governorship candidate Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and the success of other APC candidates across Lagos State in the 2027 elections.

He described councillors and other grassroots leaders as critical links between government and the people, given their direct contact with communities and constituents.

According to him, their strategic position enables them to effectively mobilise grassroots support, communicate government policies and programmes, and ensure that the interests and concerns of residents are adequately represented.

He therefore urged the leaders to prioritise unity, teamwork and effective grassroots engagement as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
