Adaora Umeoji has been named Zenith Bank’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, making her the first woman to occupy the position.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Zenith Bank announced that Dr. Umeoji’s appointment has been approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria, and will become effective on 1 June 2024.

She succeeds Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu whose successful five-year tenure concludes on 31 May 2024.

Her selection aligns with Zenith’s longstanding tradition of succession planning and commitment to nurturing internal talent for leadership roles, the bank said.

Before her most recent role, Umeoji held the position of Deputy Managing Director at the bank since 28 October 2016 and brings approximately 30 years of banking experience, 26 of which have been dedicated to the bank.

She completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School and holds a Certificate in the Global Banking Program from Columbia Business School.

She possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Jos, a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, and achieved First-Class Honours in Law from Baze University, Abuja.

Additionally, she holds a Master of Law from the University of Salford, United Kingdom, and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Calabar.
