The Senator representing Lagos East, Tokunbo Abiru, has promised to continue to articulate the interests of his people in the Upper Chamber.

He urged his constituents not to despair because of the challenging moment, saying that there is light at the end if the tunnel.

The Senator, in a new year message, noted that Nigerians, generally, passed through obvious challenges imposed by the dreaded COVID-19 scourge, high inflation, rising cost of food and petrol and general insecurity in 2021.

However, Abiru, who was inaugurated as a Senator a year ago, said he had worked assiduously to deliver on his campaign promises.

He said in fulfilment of his legislative agenda, he had sponsored many bills and motions covering different sectors, including banking and financial services, the economy, copyright, health, infrastructure and the provision of the legal framework for the reduction of the cost of governance.

Abiru, Chairman of Senate Committee on Industry, said he has also prioritised education, health, youth development, critical infrastructure, technology and innovation and human capital development in his legislative intervention.

He recalled that in January 2021, he kicked off the COVID-19 Relief Scheme for the vulnerable people in the Lagos East, adding that the programme has been sustained.

Abiru said: “I moved a motion calling on the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the Ikorodu/Sagamu Road and Ikorodu/Itoikin/Epe Epe Road.

“Our intervention with necessary follow-up and leveraging on our network has yielded positive outcomes as the Federal Government has included the funding of Ikorodu-Shagamu, in the SUKUK Financing program and the Ikorodu-Itoikin in the 2022 budget.

“Six Hundred (600) brilliant but indigent students also benefited bursaries from the endowment under my Foundation, TACT Foundation.

“In upskilling and enhancing the capacity of MSMEs in the district, I also organized a one-day Business Workshop for 1000 MSMEs across the Senatorial District.

“I initiated a N100 million Constituency Intervention Revolving Loan at five per cent interest rate, which will be topped by an additional N100 million from the Bank of Industry (BOI).

“In the same manner, I am currently setting up a Community Innovation Hub in partnership with a renowned technology company in Lagos to train youths in the senatorial district on relevant digital and innovation skills, and build the best entrepreneurs that can compete in the ever-dynamic global economy.
