Team Nigeria’s Folashade Oluwafemiayo claimed the gold medal in the women’s Heavyweight Powerlifting event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, setting a new world record in the process.

Team Nigeria’s Folashade Oluwafemiayo claimed the gold medal in the women’s Heavyweight Powerlifting event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, setting a new world record in the process.

Oluwafemiayo lifted a new world record of 155kg to claim first position in the event.

It was the Paralympic champion’s first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Team Nigeria’s Bose Omolayo won the silver medal with a lift of 145kg.

Australia’s Hani Watson won the bronze medal with a lift of 127kg.

Innocent Nnamdi also took bronze medal in the men’s Lightweight category with a lift of 190kg.

His compatriot, Thomas Kure finished in fourth position.

In the men’s heavyweight powerlifting, Ikechukwu Obichukwu won silver medal with a lift of 190kg.

Team Nigeria have now won four medals from three Powerlifting events.
