President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday condemned wanton killings in Southeast, describing them as wild and barbarous.

The president, in a tweet lamented that innocent people were being killed in the eastern part of the country.

He said the attacks were deeply distressing and condemnable.

Buhari added that the perpetrators of the attacks should expect the toughest possible response from security forces.

“I strongly condemn the wild, barbarous and wanton killings of innocent people in the South-East, as well as in other parts of Nigeria.

“The perpetrators of these deeply distressing attacks should expect the toughest possible response from the security forces,” he said.

In recent times, insecurity in the Southeast has been very depressing.

Few days ago, gunmen beheaded Okechukwu Okoye, the lawmaker representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Okoye’s head was hung at a motor park by the gunmen.

Gunmen had also killed a mother and her four children in Anambra, a killing that has ethnic colouration.
