Ikeja, Lagos — The Ikeja Local Government, in partnership with Junior Chamber International (JCI), has organised the second edition of its “Commit to Quality Health 2.0” community-focused health and wellness initiative aimed at promoting healthy living and improving access to basic healthcare services among residents.

The programme, held on October 3, 2026, at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat, brought together residents, healthcare professionals, community stakeholders and members of the council administration.

The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda, who attended the programme alongside members of his cabinet, said the initiative was organised in collaboration with JCI to bring healthcare services, health education and wellness awareness closer to the people.

Dauda explained that the partnership was not a one-off initiative, noting that the council and JCI had previously collaborated on similar healthcare awareness and intervention programmes within the community.

The Chairman, however, expressed concern over the low turnout of children for the medical exercise. He urged parents and guardians to take advantage of opportunities provided by the council to monitor the health and wellbeing of their children.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the autonomy granted to local governments, saying the development had strengthened the capacity of councils to deliver social services and respond more effectively to the needs of their communities.

According to him, Ikeja Local Government currently has five Primary Healthcare Centres, while plans are underway to establish additional centres, with land already acquired for the construction of more facilities.

Dauda appreciated JCI for its continued partnership, support and encouragement towards improving healthcare awareness and community wellbeing in Ikeja.

The medical outreach provided residents with free health screening and testing services, including checks for high blood pressure, blood sugar levels, HIV, malaria and hepatitis, as well as chest X-ray examinations.

The programme also provided participants with valuable information on preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyles and general wellbeing.

The initiative further demonstrated the commitment of Ikeja Local Government and JCI Ikeja to building healthier communities through accessible health education, wellness promotion, preventive healthcare and sustained community engagement.

Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman for bringing the healthcare services closer to residents, describing the initiative as timely and beneficial, particularly for people who may otherwise face challenges accessing basic health screening services.
