Suspected Fulani Militia Leader Linked to Middle Belt Killings Arrested in Plateau — US Report
PLATEAU — Mahmoud Adam, a suspected terrorist allegedly linked to the killing of Christians in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, has reportedly been arrested in Plateau State.
The arrest was disclosed by The Daily Caller, a United States-based news platform, in an exclusive report published on Friday.
According to the report, Adam, a resident of Plateau State, was allegedly the secret leader of the Fulani Ethnic Militia (FEM), a group purportedly linked to violent attacks in parts of the Middle Belt.
A former US intelligence officer with expertise in Islamist terrorism, who spoke to The Daily Caller, reportedly confirmed Adam’s arrest.
The publication further alleged that photographs provided exclusively by a whistleblower showed Adam meeting with senior Nigerian military officers and receiving what were described as high-value gifts. It also claimed that a serving Nigerian senator had previously intervened to secure his release from custody.
The report said Adam was arrested on September 12 during an operation at his compound in Plateau State, where he was reportedly operating as a prominent Fulani community leader.
The allegations surrounding Adam, including his purported leadership of the FEM and links to attacks on Christian communities, remain matters of investigation and should be treated as such pending official findings or prosecution.
The circumstances surrounding his arrest and the identities of those allegedly connected to him are expected to attract further scrutiny as authorities continue investigations.
