IKEJA, LAGOS — September 9, 2026: The Ikeja Local Government has intensified its revenue mobilisation drive, with the ongoing engagement and enforcement exercise across Computer Village entering its second day.
The exercise, led by the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), is aimed at strengthening compliance with approved statutory revenue obligations while improving the Council’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
For two consecutive days, the Chairman, alongside members of the Executive Council, management and relevant revenue officials, has moved through Adepele Street and other parts of Computer Village, engaging shop owners, traders, business operators and corporate organisations on the need to fulfil their statutory obligations to the Local Government.
During the exercise, AKOD personally interacted with business owners, sensitising them on the importance of paying applicable local government levies and explaining how increased revenue generation would support the Council’s ability to deliver services and development projects.
The Chairman emphasised that effective governance and sustainable development require a shared responsibility between government and citizens, noting that the delivery and maintenance of public services can only be sustained when residents and businesses fulfil their civic obligations.
He assured traders and business owners that the administration remained committed to doing more for the people, stressing that the Local Government, as the tier of government closest to the grassroots, would continue to prioritise initiatives that directly impact residents and businesses.
AKOD, however, appealed to businesses yet to regularise their payments to take advantage of the ongoing engagement exercise, particularly as the year progresses.
He noted that with September already underway, some businesses were still yet to meet their statutory revenue obligations, urging them to comply promptly rather than wait for enforcement measures.
The exercise recorded a high level of compliance, while several business owners expressed appreciation for the Chairman’s direct engagement with them.
Some traders described the Chairman’s personal interaction as unusual and encouraging, with some saying it was the first time they had seen their Local Government Chairman directly visit and engage with them at their places of business.
They also expressed optimism that the revenue generated through the exercise would be channelled into further development across Computer Village and other parts of Ikeja Local Government.
The revenue mobilisation exercise also involved the Council’s Revenue Task Force and other relevant officials, reflecting the administration’s determination to move beyond policy pronouncements towards direct engagement, improved compliance and measurable revenue outcomes.
Officials who accompanied the Chairman during the exercise included the Secretary to the Local Government, Prince Adeyinka Illo; Council Manager, Mrs. Odubeko Juliana Taiwo; Supervisors and Special Advisers of the Council; Chief of Staff; Head, Legal Unit, Mrs. Balley Olubusola; and Head, Internal Audit, Mr. Folahan Aina Kasimawo, alongside other management and revenue officials.
The revenue mobilisation and enforcement exercise continues across Adepele Street, Computer Village, and other commercial areas within Ikeja Local Government.
