Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a resignation letter dated March 11, 2026, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward of Tambuwal Local Government Area, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria announced his immediate departure from the party.
Tambuwal said the decision followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with political allies and supporters.
He cited persistent internal crises, leadership disagreements, and widening divisions within the PDP as major reasons for his exit, noting that the conflicts had eroded the unity and direction that once defined the party.
The senator expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform it provided him to serve the country in several capacities, including as Speaker of the House of Representatives and during his tenure as governor of Sokoto State.
Tambuwal confirmed that he has now joined the ADC alongside his associates and supporters, describing the party as a platform aligned with his vision for a more inclusive and accountable political system.
He added that Nigeria requires a stronger political platform anchored on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and commitment to national development.
Tambuwal reaffirmed his dedication to the service of Nigeria and the promotion of democracy, justice, and national unity.
