The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has joined the global community in celebrating women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, commending their resilience, strength and immense contributions to societal development.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Lagos APC Spokesman, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, said women remain the backbone of families, communities and the economy, playing critical roles in shaping a prosperous and inclusive Lagos.
Oladejo noted that the party is proud of the deliberate policies and sustained efforts of successive APC-led administrations in the state aimed at empowering women and expanding opportunities for them to thrive.
According to him, Lagos State has consistently maintained one of the highest levels of female representation in public service, with women serving as commissioners, permanent secretaries, legislators, special advisers, heads of government agencies and judges of the High Court.
“This reflects our belief that inclusive leadership strengthens governance and leads to better policy outcomes,” he said.
He added that APC-led governments in Lagos have supported thousands of women entrepreneurs, traders and artisans through empowerment initiatives, access to microcredit schemes, capacity-building programmes and cooperative support structures.
Oladejo explained that these interventions have benefitted women in markets, small businesses and the creative industry, helping to strengthen household incomes while contributing to the growth of the state’s economy.
He further highlighted the state government’s commitment to social protection policies designed to protect women from abuse, improve access to healthcare and promote girl-child education.
According to him, various social intervention programmes have also provided support for vulnerable women and families, improving their livelihoods and overall wellbeing.
He noted that women in sectors such as agriculture, technology, education and the creative economy have continued to benefit from government-backed training programmes, grants and innovation support initiatives aimed at unlocking their potential.
“These achievements demonstrate the APC’s enduring commitment to gender inclusion and women’s empowerment as a critical pillar of sustainable development,” Oladejo stated.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment, he said Lagos APC would continue to support policies that promote women’s participation in governance, expand economic opportunities and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to achieve her dreams.
He therefore congratulated women across Lagos State and Nigeria for their courage, resilience and invaluable contributions to nation-building.
“Your role in building stronger families, communities and institutions remains invaluable,” he added.
