Fire Incident at Lagos Island Insurance Building: Three Bodies Recovered, Rescue Operations Ongoing

Emergency responders have recovered three bodies from the rubble of the Great Nigeria Insurance building on Martin Street, Lagos Island, following the fire outbreak that led to the partial collapse of the structure.

Emergency responders have recovered three bodies from the rubble of the Great Nigeria Insurance building on Martin Street, Lagos Island, following the fire outbreak that led to the partial collapse of the structure.

According to an update released on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. on Day Four of the operation, the bodies were recovered by the agency’s response team during ongoing search-and-rescue efforts. The deceased include one adult female and two adult males.

In addition, a total of 13 victims have been rescued so far. Eight males, including a firefighter, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were transported to hospitals for medical treatment. Five others—three males and two females—suffered minor injuries, received first aid at the scene, and were subsequently discharged.

Rescue operations are continuing, with coordinated efforts involving the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. Officials say the search is still ongoing to locate other persons reportedly trapped in the affected building.

Authorities have assured the public that updates will be provided as operations progress.
