Former presidential candidate and leader of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, has cautioned Nigerians against supporting or celebrating the reported plan by U.S. President Donald Trump to launch a military operation in Nigeria under the pretext of protecting Christians.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday, the Sahara Reporters publisher described the alleged move as “perilous,” urging Nigerians to resist the temptation of viewing foreign intervention as a solution to the nation’s challenges.
“The latest threat by U.S. President Donald J. Trump to launch military action in Nigeria, allegedly to protect Christians, may sound appealing to some. Still, history has shown this to be perilous,” Sowore wrote.
He warned that Nigerians, regardless of faith or background, should not welcome such rhetoric, recalling that past U.S.-led military interventions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria left those countries more unstable and divided.
“Whether you are Christian, Muslim, animist, or non-religious, no one should celebrate such rhetoric. The United States and its allies have a long record of military interventions that leave nations more unstable than before,” he said.
Sowore maintained that Nigeria’s salvation lies not in foreign military aid but in accountable and visionary leadership capable of addressing corruption, injustice, and insecurity from within.
“What Nigeria truly needs is not a foreign savior, but legitimate, accountable leadership — one that protects all citizens, upholds justice, and ends the cycles of corruption and violence that have left the nation broken,” he emphasized.
Taking a swipe at the country’s political class, Sowore added that President Trump “does not care about Nigerians — not Christians, Muslims, or anyone else.”
“Our deliverance will never come from abroad; it must come from within, through real leadership (not the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s of this world) and national renewal,” the activist wrote, signing off with the hashtag #RevolutionNow.
Sowore’s statement comes amid heated debate among Nigerians over the alleged remarks credited to President Trump, which many have described as provocative and dangerous. Analysts warn that any U.S. military action could threaten Nigeria’s sovereignty and further destabilize the region.
