The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, inaugurated the Local Government Election Petition Appeals Tribunal, reaffirming the judiciary’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and the rule of law in electoral matters across the state.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Ikeja High Court Conference Room, saw Hon. Justice Yetunde Akinsanya appointed as Chairperson of the tribunal, with Hon. Justices Kafeel Dawodu, Omotola Oguntade, Yakubu Oshoala, and Omolade Awope serving as members.

In his address, Justice Alogba urged the tribunal members to uphold the highest standards of integrity and impartiality, reminding them that their work was pivotal to sustaining public confidence in the democratic process.

“The success of this tribunal will depend on your professionalism and unwavering commitment to justice,” he said. “You must be guided solely by the principles of law and evidence, dispensing justice without fear or favour.”

Justice Alogba noted that the establishment of the Appeals Tribunal followed the constitution of the Local Government Election Tribunal Panels inaugurated earlier in July, in line with the state’s commitment to due process.

Also speaking at the event, the Administrative Judge of the Lagos Division, Hon. Justice Olutoyin Ipaye, commended the appointed members for their competence and judicial experience, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver justice efficiently.

The tribunal is expected to commence sittings immediately at the Rosaline Omotosho Court in Ikeja, where it will hear appeals arising from the decisions of the Local Government Election Tribunals.
