Forum of Council Managers Mourns Adebimpe Akinola

Lagos politics was again thrown into mourning on Monday, 29 September 2025, following the death of Mrs Adebimpe Akinola, Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State.

Mrs Akinola, who died after a brief illness, is the fifth female council official to pass away in Lagos within just two months of the current administration’s inauguration on 27 July 2025.

The Forum of Council Managers announced her death in a statement on Monday, noting that she would be buried according to Islamic rites today, Tuesday, 30 September 2025, after Janazah prayers at Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin. Interment will follow at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara.

Council Managers are the administrative and accounting heads of the state’s 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs.

Her death adds to a string of recent tragedies:

13 August: Oluwakemi Rufai, councillor, Ibeju Lekki LG.

18 August: Zainab Shotayo, councillor, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA.

20 September: Princess Oluremi Ajose, Vice Chairman, Badagry West LCDA.

21 September: Basirat Mayabikan, councillor, Somolu LG.

The wave of sudden losses has stirred unease in political and public circles, raising questions over the string of female fatalities in the councils within such a short period.
