Fashion show to reverse impression of Ajegunle

Organisers of “Ajegunle Fashion and Design Week’’  in Lagos on Wednesday said that the event would help correct the negative impression about the people of the area.

Ogaga Wowo, Co-convener of the fashion week, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  that the event would also showcase good products from the Ajegunle area of Lagos. Ajegunle, had the reputation as a seedy suburb of Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, but has produced many stars notably in music and football.

“Ajegunle community is one that rings a bell for the kind of people it has produced in almost every sector of the Nigerian economy.

“Unfortunately, a lot of people have wrong impression of who the Ajegunle people really are.

“Thus, we are making conscious efforts to use this fashion platform to bring stakeholders, investors and the media to Ajegunle to help us portray the true picture of who we truly are to the world,’’ he said.

According to him, the show, which kicks off on Nov. 15, will help to unveil great talents in Ajegunle to the world.

He said that over 15 fashion designers from Nigeria and other West African countries would participate in the weeklong expo.

According to Wowo, this year’s event, which is the third edition, will see stakeholders proffering solutions to pertinent challenges hindering the growth of the fashion industry.

“It is not news that the industry had a fair share of problems but we can empower ourselves in our creativity.

“This will help us to gradually reposition fashion as a basic point of force in reviving commerce in the country at large,” he said.

NAN reports that Ajegunle Fashion and Design Week will feature award winning designers like Stephen Raymond and Dellis Mamella, among others. (NAN)
