The Federal Capital Territory Police Command says Alex Ikwechegh the member of the House of Representatives, who allegedly assaulted and threatened a Bolt driver, also appeared to have disrespected the Inspector-General of Police.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, Josephine Adeh, in a statement on Monday, said during an altercation between the lawmaker and the Bolt driver Stephen Abuwateya, Ikwechegh reportedly made a comment that was contemptuous of the IGP’s office.

She said, “The FCT Police Command expresses grave concern over Ikwegh’s dismissive attitude toward the office of the I-G following the incident.

“After allegedly slapping the victim, he reportedly remarked with contempt, ‘You can go ahead and call the Inspector -General of Police,’ demonstrating a troubling disregard for the authority of law enforcement.

“Currently, the suspect is at the Maitama Police Station undergoing questioning.”

Adeh said the matter would be thoroughly investigated and necessary legal action would be taken afterwards.
