At the ongoing Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships on Sunday, world record holder Tobi Amusan emerged victorious in her heat, clocking 12.53s, and advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles.

The Nigerian hurdler crossed the finish line in 12.53 seconds, edging out Devynne Charlton (Bahamas) in 12.69 and Elena Carraro (Italy) in 12.86 to claim her semifinal spot.

The opening round was fiercely contested, with defending champion Danielle Williams (Jamaica) posting the fastest time in Heat 2, just ahead of Alaysha Johnson (United States) at 12.40. Other qualifiers included Grace Stark (United States) at 12.46, Nadine Visser (Netherlands) at 12.48, Masai Russell (United States) at 12.53, and Ackera Nugent (Jamaica) at 12.54, setting up a high-pressure next round.

Amusan is set to participate in Semifinal Heat 2 on 15 September, where she will face stiff competition from Nadine Visser (Netherlands), Amoi Brown (Jamaica), Alaysha Johnson (United States), Pia Skrzyszowska (Poland), Hitomi Nakajima (Japan), Elena Carraro (Italy), and Saara Keskitalo (Finland) in a high-pressure bid to secure a place in the final.

Nigeria’s Day 2 campaign commenced with Oyesade Olatoye participating in the women’s hammer throw. The national champion achieved a throw of 68.82m, securing 10th place in Group A and 21st overall, narrowly missing the final.

Camryn Rogers (CAN) led the final with 77.52m, followed by Silja Kosonen (FIN) at 75.88m and DeAnna Price (USA) with 74.99m.
