2022 Budget-Oriade Council holds stakeholders forum, Chairman Harps on prompt and regular payment of levies by residents to aid development

The Executive Chairman of Oriade, Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria,Hon Ramotalai Akinlola Hassan has emphasized the need for people of the council to pay their rates and levies promptly and regularly in order to boost development of the council.

The council chairman made the emphasis in her address at the council secretariat,on Wednesday during the 2022 Budget Stakeholders Consultative Forum,organised by the Budget, Planning and Stastics Department of the council.

Her words: ” as we prepare to usher in 2022,our administration is poised to deliver more dividend of democracy for our people, but the task of building a better Oriade council is a collective responsibility of the government and the governed,as such, I am appealing to all tax payers within the council area to ensure prompt payment of their levies and rates to the council’s purse”.

Hon Ramotalai informed the community leaders and other participants at the Stakeholders Forum that,it would no longer be business as usual in the new year, for revenue officials of the council who are in the habit of diverting revenue collected from residents into their private pockets.

The council chairman,who was a former member of Lagos State House of Assembly  explained that the Stakeholders Consultative Forum is an important exercise that must be carried out in the preparation of the annual budget of the council.

She added that the forum  will afford the people, the opportunity to be part of the policy making process at the council,as their inputs and developmental needs would be collected,analysed and used as major components of the 2022 budget proposal of the council.

Hon Ramotalai, while expressing her appreciation to the people in the council area for casting their votes for the All Progressives Congress(APC) at the July 24th local government election and by extension, giving her the mandate to serve as Executive Chairman of the council for a second term in office,reeled out the achievements of her administration in the last 100 days in office.

She said: “since our assumption of office for another four years,we have hit the ground running with different people oriented projects and programmes.These include, donation of 500 KVA transformer to Abule Oshun Community, procurement of of new office furniture for workers, presentation of free GCE forms to 100 youths, rendering of financial support to 300 widows across the seven wards of the council and presentation of Bursary Award to 376 students of tertiary institutions (Indigenes and Non-Indigenes)”.

Other achievements listed by Hon Ramotalai are, procurement of sanitation equipment and tools for Environmental Health officials,to assist them in carrying out effective and efficient sanitation operation, prompt and regular evacuation of corpses within the council area, regular desilting of drainages to allow for free flow of water, construction of new office complex at the back of the council secretariat and a new,state of the art Legislative Chamber within the council secretariat,both of which are ongoing projects.

She promised to commence rendering of financial support for the aged and introduce talent hunt competition amongst youths in 2022.

The guest speaker at the event,Mr Femi Lamina informed the Stakeholders that the basic reason for organizing the Budget Consultative Forum is to ensure that government is on the same page with the people in the area of their developmental needs.He added that the forum will allow government to really know the type of projects and programmes the people are in dire need of based on what their request.Mr Lamina urged the participants to take maximum advantag.
