The Delta State Police Command has announced a massive deployment of personnel and operational resources across the state to guarantee a safe, peaceful and hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebration.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Command said the Commissioner of Police had directed the strategic deployment of officers before, during and after the festive period to protect lives and property and ensure the success of all activities lined up for the season.

According to the statement, all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Commanders have been instructed to deploy personnel to churches, event centres, recreational facilities and other venues to prevent criminal activities and maintain public order.

Patrol teams drawn from specialised units, including Dragon Patrol, Safer Highways, Quick Response Squad, Rapid Response Squad, CP-SAT and the Eagle-Net Special Squad, have been deployed to key routes and flashpoints across the state. These include the Asaba–Onitsha Head Bridge, Anwai Campus Gate to Illah, Onicha Ugbo–Idumuje Ugboko axis, PTI and DSC roundabouts, as well as the Asaba–Agbor Expressway, Abraka–Eku Road, and Asaba–Kwale/Ughelli Road.

Additional patrols from Abraka, Ughelli and Sapele divisions have been stationed along major express roads within their areas of responsibility, while heavy deployment has been effected at flashpoints within the Asaba metropolis, including Summit Junction, Inter-Bau Roundabout, Federal Medical Centre Roundabout, Ogbe-Ogonogo Market, Government House Gate, Airport Junction and Federal College Junction.

The Command also said adequate traffic control measures have been put in place at the Asaba Head Bridge, with police personnel and traffic wardens deployed exclusively for traffic management. DPOs of ‘B’ and ‘C’ Divisions in Asaba, alongside the State Traffic Officer, have been tasked with coordinating traffic control in collaboration with other security agencies.

In Warri, Effurun and surrounding areas, DPOs of Ekpan and Ebrumede divisions have been directed to ensure adequate security and smooth traffic flow, particularly around the busy DSC and Effurun roundabouts.

The Commissioner of Police further ordered the deployment of Marine Police along waterways to combat sea piracy and illegal bunkering, with special attention on Escravos, Burutu and Warri waterways, to protect traders and travellers.

Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has been mandated to conduct continuous Operation Show of Force across the state with effect from December 21.

The Police Command urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue to support security agencies with useful information, while assuring the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order and safeguarding lives and property.

On behalf of officers and men of the Command, the Commissioner of Police wished Deltans and Nigerians a peaceful and hitch-free festive season.
