The Lagos State Government has promised to commit more resources towards initiatives, programmes and projects that support youth development in the State.

The Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Olusegun Dawodu, made the promise at an event organised by the Ministry as part of activities to commemorate the Y2022 International Youth Day.

He said: “A nation that loves its future must not play with the youth population. That is the reason the present administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has promised to do more to ensure that youths are given the wherewithal required to enable them to emerge as global players in all spheres of life”.

Dawodu stated that the resuscitation of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (Lagos Chapter) was primarily aimed at creating a veritable platform for the youths to air their views and actualise their aspirations.

According to him, the Ministry of Youth and Social Development has put in place numerous programmes, including Police Youth Dialogue, Youth Symposium, Ibile Youth Academy and Transformational Leadership to equip the youth with the requisite skills and knowledge to perform optimally in their endeavours.

“The concerted efforts put into the review of Youth Policy, such as giving grants to Voluntary Youth Organisations in Lagos, formation of Lagos State Youth Parliament, as well as the building and upgrading of Youth Centres across the State, are indicative of the State Government’s resolve to give the youth a sense of belonging”, the Commissioner stated.

International Youth Day is always celebrated annually on August 12 to raise awareness about cultural and legal issues related to the youth. This year’s theme is: “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages”.
