World Teachers’ Day 2026: Dauda Celebrates Ikeja Teachers, Reaffirms Support For Quality Education

The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda, has felicitated teachers across Ikeja, Nigeria and the world on the occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, commending them for their invaluable contributions to education and nation building.

World Teachers’ Day, observed annually on October 5, is being celebrated this year under the global theme: “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures.”

The 2026 celebration also marks 60 years since the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which established important principles for protecting teachers’ rights, professional standards and working conditions.

In a goodwill message, Dauda described teachers as “among the most important builders of society,” noting that their responsibilities extend beyond classroom teaching to include nurturing young minds, developing character, inspiring dreams and preparing future generations for responsible citizenship.

The Executive Chairman particularly commended teachers in public schools across Ikeja for their dedication, resilience and commitment to educating and mentoring children despite the various challenges confronting the teaching profession.

According to him, the quality of education is closely linked to the welfare, dignity, professional development and working conditions of teachers, stressing the need for sustained support for educators at all levels.

Dauda said the theme of this year’s celebration provides an opportunity for governments, parents, communities and other stakeholders to reflect on issues affecting teachers, including remuneration, workload, professional recognition and access to the resources required for effective teaching.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Ikeja Local Government administration to supporting education and creating an enabling environment where teachers can perform their duties effectively and children can receive quality education.

He also urged parents, community leaders and other stakeholders to recognise and support the teaching profession, emphasising that investing in teachers is an investment in the future of children and society.

“Every child a teacher teaches, encourages or inspires represents a potential contribution to the future of Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria and the world,” Dauda said.

The Ikeja Local Government Chairman encouraged teachers to remain steadfast in their noble profession, assuring them that their contributions to the development of society remain invaluable and will continue to make a lasting impact.

He concluded by expressing appreciation to teachers in Ikeja and across the globe for their service, dedication and commitment to “shaping minds, building character and shaping our future.”

Dauda wished all teachers a Happy World Teachers’ Day 2026, praying that God would continue to strengthen, reward and bless them for their invaluable service to humanity.
