Central African Republic’s Les Fauves (The Wild Beasts) created a great upset in the Group C feature of Africa’s World Cup Qualifiers, as they shocked Nigeria Super Eagles in a 1-0 defeat, inside the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere-Lagos.
Karl Namganda scored the only goal of the game in the added minutes after soaking up lots of pressure from the Super Eagles who couldn’t find the back of the net throughout the 90 minutes before Namganda scored for CAR following a mistake between Balogun and Troost-Ekong.
The victory for the Central African Republic has ended Nigeria’s unbeaten start to the qualification stage after they recorded victories in their two earlier matches against Liberia and Cape Verde.
After three matches, Nigeria still tops the group with six points while Cape Verde is second with four points.
Central African Republic has the same four points as Cape Verde, but with more goals advantage.
While Liberia is at the bottom of the group with one point.
The two teams meet again on Sunday for the reverse feature, second-leg at Douala, Cameroon.
Central African Republic is playing away from home because the Confederation of African Football (CAF) couldn’t approve any stadium suitable for international matches in the country.
