We Haven’t Returned To APC, Only Met Tinubu Over Suspension, Entitlements — Eight Zamfara Lawmakers

The eight suspended members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have denied reports that they have returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that their recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu was to discuss issues surrounding their suspension and pending entitlements.

The lawmakers, through their spokesman and member representing Bakura Constituency, Ibrahim Tukur Bakura, disclosed this in an interview with journalists that they had neither defected to the APC nor promised to return to the party.

Bakura explained that their visit to the Presidential Villa was aimed at discussing the circumstances surrounding their suspension from the Assembly, their outstanding entitlements and possible ways of resolving the issues.

He described reports by some online media platforms claiming that the lawmakers had returned to the APC as false and misleading.

“Neither have we decamped to the APC nor promised to return to the APC. What took us to the Villa was to discuss the problem of why we were suspended, our pending entitlements and how to resolve it,” he said.

The lawmaker further stated that any decision to formally return to the APC would be publicly announced, assuring journalists that he would personally brief the media if such a decision was taken.

“If we decide to return to the APC officially, I will personally call journalists and other important media houses and brief them,” he added.

The eight lawmakers had recently resigned from the APC before meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Monday.

They were led to the Villa by the Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Bello Matawalle.

Their meeting with the President had sparked speculation about a possible return to the APC, which the lawmakers have now publicly denied.
