OJODU, LAGOS — The Oluwole Estate Field was the centre of excitement at the weekend as the DOS Mega Football Cup came to a dramatic close, delivering a gripping finale that reaffirmed the vibrancy of grassroots sports in Ojodu LCDA.
The event opened with a friendly novelty match between the Eminent Politicians (Ojodu LCDA APC) and the Ojodu LCDA chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). The encounter ended 3–2 in favour of the Eminent Politicians. The Executive Chairman of Ojodu LCDA, Hon. Segun Odunmbaku, drew loud cheers from spectators when he scored the decisive winning goal, setting the stage for an action-packed afternoon.
The championship final between Ward A and Ward B maintained the intensity, showcasing fast-paced, high-quality football. Ward B struck first, but Ward A mounted a strong comeback, with both sides pushing the game to its limits in a pulsating 2–2 draw at full time.
The tie proceeded to a tense penalty shootout, with Ward B showing greater composure to seal victory and emerge champions of the 2025 DOS Mega Football Cup. Their supporters erupted in jubilation as the winning kick hit the back of the net.
Hon. Odunmbaku later presented the ₦500,000 cash prize and the championship trophy to the triumphant Ward B side, praising their grit and teamwork. The runners-up, Ward A, received ₦250,000, applauded for their spirited performance and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
The Chairman described the competition as a “true celebration of community spirit, youth development and unity within Ojodu LCDA,” reaffirming the council’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote talent and positive engagement among young people.
