Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade have successfully repelled a fierce ambush by terrorists around Wajiroko in the Azir–Multe axis of Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State. The attack occurred as the soldiers were returning from a routine patrol conducted along the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.
The patrol team, led by the Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, comprised troops of the brigade and operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). Despite the sudden and heavy gunfire from insurgents, the troops fought courageously, overwhelming the attackers with superior firepower and forcing them to flee in disarray.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that two soldiers and two CJTF members tragically lost their lives during the encounter. While commending the courage and resilience of the troops, the Army extended heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the fallen heroes, describing their sacrifice as patriotic and immeasurable.
The Army Headquarters also dismissed claims circulating on some online platforms suggesting that the Brigade Commander had been abducted during the encounter. It urged the public to disregard such misinformation and rely on verified updates.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (NAM), praised the troops for their gallantry and steadfastness, noting that their commitment in one of the most dangerous conflict zones exemplifies the daily sacrifices made by Nigeria’s service men and women to safeguard the nation.
