WAFU B U17: Cote D’ivoire defeats Nigeria 3-2 to win final

The Golden Eaglets failed to lift the trophy after their narrow defeat to the Young Elephants at Stade de Kegue, Lome, Togo.

Defending champions Golden Eaglets of Nigeria lost 3-2 against the under 17 side of Cote D’ivoire in the final of the WAFU B U17 tournament on Monday.

In what was a repeat of the group stage match which also saw the Ivorians come out victorious 1-0, the Eaglets played second fiddle to their West African neighbors for the better parts of the match.

After taking the lead through a fine strike from Sindou, the Ivorians took the initiative and scored quickfire second and third. Two late goals from Ahmed Abdulahi were not enough to help the Golden Eagles lift the trophy after Sindou Kone, Abdrumane Konate and Seydou Traore strikes condemned Nigeria to their second defeat against the young Elephants in the tournament.

Fatai Amoo’s boys started the competition on a shaky note when they lost their opening Group B match to Cote D’ivoire.

Despite the loss, Fatai Amoo’s boys have joined the teams that have qualified for the 2021 U17 Africa Cup of Nations holding in Morocco 13th – 31st March.
