It was glitz and glamour as veteran Nollywood actress Oluwafunmibi Febisola Akinduro popularly known as Queen Yayi of Africa celebrated her 60th birthday anniversary with a grand reception on Sunday at the LTV Combo Hall, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos State.

Family, friends and fans gathered to celebrate a momentous occasion, the 60th birthday of Oluwafunmibi Febisola Akinduro, it was time to reflect upon the incredible journey of a woman whose life has been characterized by determination, achievement, and the unrelenting pursuit of excellence.
Born into the esteemed family of Chief and Mrs. O. Akinuliola from Idanre in Ondo State in the year 1963, Oluwafunmibi’s journey began with a spark that would illuminate her path throughout the years.
Her early years saw her emerge as the first child, paving the way for her to chart her own destiny. As a young student at Methodist Primary School Idale-Idanre from 1970 to 1976, she ignited her passion for acting, a passion that would remain steadfast throughout her life. This foundation was further strengthened as she moved to Olofin Anglican Grammar School from 1978 to 1983. During these formative years, she showcased her multifaceted talents by representing her school in singing competitions and establishing herself as a prominent figure in sports, particularly basketball. In 1980, she etched her name in history by clinching her first gold medal, an accomplishment that marked the beginning of a legacy.
Her secondary school years were marked by a commitment to excellence and a relentless pursuit of distinction. Notably, she became the pioneer captain to lead the women’s basketball team to a national gold medal in Ondo State. These early achievements foreshadowed the trailblazing journey she would embark upon in the years to come.
Oluwafunmibi’s path took an enriching turn as she entered a new chapter of life, marrying Chief Francis Adetunji Akinduro and becoming the loving mother of two daughters and a son. As a mother, she embodied strength, love, and guidance, setting an example for her children to strive for greatness.
Her thirst for knowledge led her to Lagos State Polytechnic Isolo, where she pursued her studies in Business Studies. Her diligence and unwavering commitment saw her attain her National Diploma in 1997 and her Higher National Diploma in Business Administration and Management in 2000. The culmination of her polytechnic education in 2003 was a testament to her unyielding determination.
Her involvement in politics and community service illustrated her dedication to making a difference. Joining the Social Democratic Party (S.D.P.) in 1992, she quickly rose through the ranks, becoming an Alliance for Democracy (A.D.) member in 1998. Her leadership roles as the Financial Secretary and Women Leader at the Ward Level showcased her ability to inspire and lead.
Her influence extended to the community, as she took on pivotal roles within development associations. From her tenure as the Treasurer of the Community Development Association (CDA) in Anifowoshe to her ascent as the Assistant Secretary of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Ikeja Local Government, she consistently advocated for progress.
Her impact reached even further as she made significant contributions to the theatre industry. A member of Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), she served as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) during the interim government in 2014, later earning the distinction of becoming the first elected General Secretary of TAMPAN in Lagos State from 2014 to 2018. Her dedication persisted as she became the TAMPAN National Provost Marshall from 2018 to 2022.
Today, as she holds the esteemed position of the Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Ikeja Local Government, she is affectionately known as “YayiOfAfrica.” Her life’s journey is an embodiment of resilience, progressive leadership, and a commitment to uplifting others.
