The House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies says the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, results crisis is due to human error and not technical glitches.
The Chairman of the Committee, Oboku Oforji, while speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, stated that preliminary findings showed that the error, which affected over 300,000 candidates, was not due to technical failure.
The results from JAMB’s 2025 UTME were released on May 9, abreakdown indicated that more than 78 percent of candidates scored less than 200 points out of the 400 maximum points obtainable.
The mass failure triggered protests that questioned the overall integrity of the examination process.
Meanwhile, JAMB undertook an early review and uncovered a major “technical error”.
Recall that last Wednesday, the Registrar of the Board, Ishaq Oloyede, during a press conference in Abuja, said the results of 379,997 candidates were affected.
Flanked by his colleagues, the Chairman of the Committee, who said the fault was caused by human error and not a technical issue as claimed by JAMB, sympathised with the candidates who were affected by the error.
“We sincerely apologise on behalf of the examination body, JAMB, to all Nigerians. The committee recognises the courage and sincerity of the JAMB registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, for accepting the fault on behalf of his team and apologising to the parents, candidates, and the nation in general,” he said.
