Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has received former associates of ex-governor Nasir El-Rufai and their supporters into the All Progressives Congress (APC) following their exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The defection took place in Zaria on Saturday, October 17, 2026, and was led by Bashir Sa’idu, a former Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Finance under El-Rufai, alongside Jafaru Sani, a former commissioner and governorship aspirant.
The development comes amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and influential political figures working to consolidate their support bases.
Sa’idu attributed his decision to return to the APC to disagreements within the ADC over its leadership structure and candidate-selection process.
Ahead of the defection, Jafaru Sani had claimed that the group was bringing more than 150,000 registered ADC members into the APC, while Sa’idu had earlier announced that he was moving with approximately 10,000 supporters. However, the figures have not been independently verified as actual defections.
Welcoming the new members, Governor Uba Sani assured them of equal treatment, irrespective of when they joined the party. He urged APC stakeholders to put past differences aside, strengthen party unity and focus on development and mobilisation ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The reception was attended by prominent political figures, including Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, and former Kaduna State Governor, Ramalan Yero.
Governor Uba Sani also disclosed that the APC was targeting three million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in Kaduna State in 2027.
The latest defection marks another shift in Kaduna State’s political landscape as the APC seeks to consolidate its membership and strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the next general elections.
