Troops of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army have neutralised two suspected armed terrorists during a tactical operation along the Akunu–Auga road in Ondo State.
The operation, conducted on February 14, 2026, was carried out by soldiers deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Auga following credible human intelligence on the movement of suspected criminal elements within the area.
According to a statement issued by Major Irabor Njoka, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 32 Artillery Brigade, the troops swiftly mobilised to intercept the suspects. On making contact, a firefight ensued, during which the soldiers’ superior firepower resulted in the neutralisation of two of the suspects, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
The operation was executed in collaboration with personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency and local vigilantes.
Items recovered at the scene included one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit drugs, charms, and ₦39,000 in cash, among other personal effects.
The Army said the outcome of the operation underscores its resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of action and to safeguard lives and property across Ondo State.
The Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining clearance and exploitation operations, intensifying patrols along identified criminal corridors, and strengthening synergy with other security agencies and community stakeholders to enhance security in the state.
Residents were urged to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that public cooperation remains critical to ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
