Tribute to Yeyesewa of Lagos, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson-Babatunde Ogala SAN

I had woken up on Sunday 17th July 2022 and felt lazy to go to church.

What a shock? What a loss?

I had woken up on Sunday 17th July 2022 and felt lazy to go to church.

I then came down and sat in my little garden enjoying the morning sun.

I had an early meeting with an associate who had come visiting and a substantial part of our discussions centred around this woman of valour, Chief (Mrs) Olukemi Titi Nelson.

My guest left and boom within 30 minutes of her leaving the news came like bomb that this amazon may have passed on.

I refused to believe that we may have lost a great leader and mobilizer, an amazon and a consumate progressive.

I put the call through to her husband and her ever reliable partner ,Jibike. Calls went unanswered. I called some of our political associates, and they also didn’t have news.

Before long one of those I had called returned my call to confirm the very sad news of the demise of an abiyamo tooto as Yeyesewa is fondly called by her political family in Ikeja.

Yeyesewa was indeed an enigmatic character and ever ebullient.

She was a true progressive and an unapologetic member of her party.

She was compassionate and loyal to her cause and constituency.

She watched the back of her own at all times

She practiced her religion with passion and was a Godly woman who commanded respect within our church circle.

As women leader of All Progressives Congress in Lagos State and at the Zonal Level as Southwest leader of women in APC , she fought for the rights of women and she enlisted me strongly into her fold reminding me that I am a co-woman leader and ensured I also fought their causes.

The demise of Yeyesewa is a big loss to us in the APC family in Ikeja in particular and Lagos State, Southwest and Nigeria.

We have lost a mother and bridge builder. We lost an amazon in Kemi Nelson.

Kemi cannot be replaced and she has left a very big vacuum in leadership in our party and the country. She cannot be forgotten.

I have on a personal level lost a friend , a sister  associate, gist mate and counsellor.

Kemi was always there for me whenever I called upon her.

I commiserate with her husband,My Dear egbon Yemi Nelson, the children and grandchildren as well as the extended families in this their hour of grief.

I pray almighty God to give the all the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss of Yeyesewa. And may He grant her soul repose in His bossom.

Good Night, Yeyesewa. Good night, Good woman. Good Night Yeyesewa.

Babatunde Ogala SAN
