Tree Planting Day: Ojodu Council Chairman, Odunmbaku urges residents need to protect relationship with nature

This year 2022 tree planting at OJODU was held at Estate Primary School Ogba. The theme “In Harmony with nature “ is a worthy step to stem the tide of environmental degradation and inordinate exploitation of earth’s resources. It was initiated by the Ministry of Environment to compliment the landscape as well as respond to effects of the adverse weather conditions, and also mitigate the negative effects of climate change.

It was initiated by the Ministry of Environment to compliment the landscape as well as respond to effects of the adverse weather conditions, and also mitigate the negative effects of climate change.

Today’s event as it has always been done since 2008 took place simultaneously in all the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) in the State.

The Executive Chairman Ojodu lcda,Hon David Olusegun Odunmbaku opened the programme by expressing his gratitude to all for honoring this years Lagos Tree Planting  Day Celebration.

He reminded the residents of the need to protect their relationship with nature and not take for granted the interdependent web that sustains human life.  He also stated that the environmental crisis did not begin globally, it began locally and that one of the most important aspects of rearticulating human development is to be fair to nature and other living things.

The Vice Chairman Hon. Bunmi Oluyadi gave his contribution with a subtle reminder that humans need plants to survive and that all  should quickened to the responsibility of ensuring the restoration and reinstallation of our relationship with nature through tree planting which would further ensure the suspended of life.

The Oba of Aguda appreciated the good work of the Executive Chairman and his team and also encouraged tree planting among the community.

The representative from LASPARK (Mrs Ope Olaleye) also emphasized the vital role of trees to human life. In addition to providing shade, trees produce oxygen and purify the air we breath by removing harmful particles from the atmosphere.

She also informed that free tree seedlings are available in their offices for anyone interested and that an Art competition for children between age 3-16 is ongoing with amazing prices to be won.

Also in attendance were other  representatives from LASPARK, Executive team,and Legislator, Management, school children and members of the community.

The programme ended with symbolic tree planting by the Executive Chairman , The Vice- Chairman, Traditional ruler,The LASPARK representative, other stakeholders and students from Estate Primary School
