Tinubu’s 2027 Bid Gets Prayers from Former Ward Chairmen as Ajala Unveils Plans

The League of Former Ward Chairmen of the Progressives in the Ikeja Federal Constituency has organised a special interfaith prayer session for the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress, seeking divine guidance and victory for the party in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

The League of Former Ward Chairmen of the Progressives in the Ikeja Federal Constituency has organised a special interfaith prayer session for the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress, seeking divine guidance and victory for the party in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

The prayer session was also dedicated to the success of the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

In his opening remarks, the Coordinator of the group, Comrade Tayo Aderinola, said the initiative was aimed at seeking God’s divine intervention and support for the President’s re-election and the success of all APC candidates in the upcoming polls.

Aderinola added that the group was also praying for the re-election of Rt Hon James Abiodun Faleke, who currently represents Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

He also used the occasion to express the association’s appreciation to Faleke for ensuring that former ward chairmen are gradually being recognised and rewarded for their years of selfless service to the party.

He further commended the recognition given to former ward chairmen, noting that the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda, the Vice Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area, Hon. Funmilayo Layeni, as well as himself and Alhaji Saheed Ekundayo, who were recently appointed into the Ikeja Local Government Executive Council, are all former ward chairmen. He said this development has rekindled hope among committed party members at the grassroots.

The one-hour prayer session featured supplications offered in both Islamic and Christian traditions for party leaders, including the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as well as APC candidates expected to contest in the 2027 elections.

Following the prayer session, members of the league hosted a frontline aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikeja Constituency II, Barr. Ajala Ganiyu Olawale, (AGO) who used the opportunity to outline his development plans for the constituency if elected.

Ajala explained that his visit was part of ongoing consultations with key stakeholders to highlight his socio-political background and seek the support of the association ahead of the party’s nomination process.

Members of the league engaged the aspirant in a question-and-answer session, raising concerns about the tendency of some politicians to seek grassroots support during elections but later become disconnected from the needs of constituents after securing office.

Many members of the association, who described themselves as grassroots mobilisers, however expressed confidence in Ajala, noting that his background and engagement with the grassroots positioned him to better understand and address the challenges facing the constituency.

Ajala was accompanied by political associates including the Vice chairman Ojodu Local Council Development Area, Hon. Funmilayo Layeni and the immediate past Vice chairman Hon. Bunmi Oluyadi; the Deputy Leader of the Ojodu Legislative Council,  Hon. Lanre Ogunnoiki; and other supporters.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed April 30 as the deadline for the nomination of party candidates for the 2027 general elections.
