The Lagos State Civil Service Commission (CSC) has briefed members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Lagos State Branch, on the modalities of the forthcoming Y2022 promotion exercise for Lagos Civil Servants at a meeting in Alausa, Ikeja.

Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Olubunmi Fabamwo, spoke during a visit by Executive Members of the association to her office, explaining the need for a reintroduction of oral interviews as part of the promotion criteria for officers on Grade Levels 14 and above in the State

While noting that there are numerous advantages to oral interviews, Mrs. Fabamwo said that the exercise would enable various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) meet with their staff to identify and adequately assess their talents

She added that the oral interview will also afford MDAs the opportunity to promptly address any identified knowledge gaps through capacity building that will boost staff confidence.

The Chairman, however, charged the Union Executives to maintain a harmonious relationship with the Commission, urging the team to ensure effective sensitisation of members about the Y2022 promotion exercise.

Speaking in the same vein, Mrs. Boladele Dapo-Thomas, Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, said the primary aim of the year 2022 promotion exercise is to boost staff capacity.

She highlighted the few issues that arose from the year 2021 promotion exercise, noting, however, that all the issues have been resolved amicably by the Commission.

In his remark, the Director, Career Management Directorate of the Commission, Mr. Kehinde Yusuf, stated that the forthcoming promotion exercise will be split into two categories similar to the Y2021 edition, listing them as Category 1: Eligible Officers on Grade Levels 6-10 and Category 2: Eligible Officers on Grade Levels 12-16.

He explained that officers on GL 6-10 would undergo on-site Revised Structural Training that will address Job Specific and Cross-Cutting Issues, while officers from GL 12-16 would participate in virtual training for both.

Speaking further, Yusuf disclosed that the awareness campaign organised by the Commission would be intensified to ensure proper sensitisation of all eligible officers for the promotion exercise.

Comrade Olusegun Balogun, Chairman, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Lagos State Branch, commended Mrs. Fabamwo for her leadership role at the Commission, lending his full support to the reintroduction of oral interviews and sensitisation for eligible officers in the Y2022 promotion exercise.
