
The Lagos Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), on Tuesday, commenced a weeklong induction programme for the newly appointed secondary school teachers into the State Teaching Service.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman, Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Olabisi Ariyo, stated that the induction was organised for the recently recruited 1000 secondary school teachers in line with the present administration’s resolve to improve the standard of education in the State.
She explained that the induction exercise was to properly integrate the new appointees into the educational system of the State, while also equipping them with modern standard methodologies of teaching and learning so as to impact positively on the students.
According to her, after the induction which is expected to hold simultaneously at three centres from Tuesday 11th to Saturday 16th February 2020, namely the Teaching Service Staff Development Centre (TSSDC), Owutu, Ikorodu, New Era Girls’ Secondary School Surulere and Awori–Ifelodun Senior High School, Agboju, the appointees will be handed over to their various Tutors-General/ Permanent Secretaries for further posting to the various secondary schools within the State for their primary assignments.
While noting that the recruitment processes, which commenced in November 2019, were very thorough in order to ensure that only qualified and competent candidates were selected, Ariyo emphasised that the new recruits will have a positive impact on the students in fulfilment of government’s intention of improving secondary school education to internationally accepted standards.
