Team Lagos Shines at Zonal Elimination Contest for EDO2020

Lagos has once again demonstrated its leadership role in sports competitions in the South-West with resounding performance at the just concluded zonal eliminations for Team Sports towards the 20th National Sports Festival coming up in Benin, Edo State in March, 2020.

The Director-General , Lagos State Sports Commission , Oluwatoyin Gafaar, disclosed this while speaking on the team performances at the zonal eliminations hosted by Lagos State in nine team Sports – Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Rugby, Hockey, Cricket, Beach volleyball and Abula.

He said Team Lagos qualified for 16 sports out of 19 that it participated in, adding that the team took the 1st position while Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti, and Osun placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th respectively.

Gafaar added that Team Lagos also qualified for the female and male categories in Football, Handball, Cricket and Rugby, while its Female Volleyball and Beach Volleyball Teams will also be participating in the National Sports Festival tagged: “Edo 2020”.

While noting that about 250 Athletes represented Team Lagos at the Zonal Eliminations, he stressed that the success recorded by Team Lagos at the Zonal Eliminations was as a result of adequate preparations and unflinching support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the team.
