Secretariat Membership Club Marks Democracy Day 2026 with Patriotism, Reflection and Fellowship

The Secretariat Membership Club (SMC), formerly known as Pilots Club, Ikeja, commemorated Nigeria’s 2026 Democracy Day with a memorable celebration that brought together members, their families, and distinguished guests in an atmosphere of unity, patriotism, and camaraderie.

The Secretariat Membership Club (SMC), formerly known as Pilots Club, Ikeja, commemorated Nigeria’s 2026 Democracy Day with a memorable celebration that brought together members, their families, and distinguished guests in an atmosphere of unity, patriotism, and camaraderie.

The event commenced with the ceremonial hoisting of the National and Club flags, followed by the rendition of both the National Anthem and the Club Anthem. The opening activities set a solemn and patriotic tone for the day’s proceedings.

Delivering the welcome address, the President of the Club, Otunba Ayodeji Randle, warmly received members and guests, emphasizing the importance of democracy, unity, and active participation in nation-building. This was followed by a media interaction with the Club’s General Secretary, Prince Emmanuel Bepo Adesuyi, who provided insights into the Club’s activities and highlighted the significance of democratic principles in the administration of the organization.

A major highlight of the celebration was the delivery of two enlightening lectures on the theme “Democracy and the Importance of Effective Club Management.” The guest lecturers explored the relationship between democratic governance and successful organizational leadership, drawing parallels with the Club’s commitment to its core values of Harmony, Progress, and Recreation.

The gathering also observed a moment of remembrance in honour of Nigeria’s past heroes and departed members of the Club. Special prayers were offered by Mr. Taiwo Obileye, who paid tribute to their invaluable contributions to both the nation and the Club.

In his vote of thanks, the Vice President of the Club, Asiwaju Engr. Yomi Shogbolu, expressed appreciation to the Club’s Patrons, Trustees, Executive Committee members, guest speakers, sponsors, members, and visitors for their support and participation in making the event a success.

The celebration concluded with generous hospitality, as attendees were treated to refreshments and gifts, reflecting the Club’s enduring spirit of fellowship and generosity.

From the patriotic ceremonies and educational lectures to the tributes and social interactions, the Democracy Day 2026 celebration reaffirmed the Secretariat Membership Club’s role as a beacon of unity, civic responsibility, and community development within and beyond Nigeria.
