Say no to gender- based violence – Morenike urges residents of Igando-ikotun

We are determined to stamp out gender-based violence in Lagos – Mrs. Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State First Lady, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu represented by Mrs. Oluwafumilayo Omotosho in Community Sensitization meeting on Sexual & Gender Based Violence held at Alimosho general hospital, on ending violence against women and girls, on Wednesday 9th December 2020.

Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu on vowed that the state government will continue to implement various initiatives aimed at stamping out the heinous crime of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the State, especially against women and children.

On her part, Wife of the Governor, Mrs Sanwoolu urged members of the public to join the effort of the State Government to drastically reduce the menace of rape and all forms of gender-based violence.

Hon. Morenike Adesina Williams Executive Chairman Igando-Ikotun Lcda, said the commitment of the present administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains the same which is zero tolerance to all forms of sexual and gender-based violence.

According to her, “Today is another great day in the annals of Alimosho Constituency as we jointly march forward in our quest to frontally stamp out all forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), especially against women and children in our communities.

“ I must confess and commend the first lady Mrs Sanwoolu has been commendably supportive and leading efforts to fight the heinous crime of rape and all forms of Gender-Based Violence in the State.

“Our aim of doing this is that we envision a society where Sexual and Gender-Based Violence is reduced to the barest minimum and we are determined to achieve this by working collaboratively and effectively with relevant stakeholders,” the council chairman said.

Morenike urged support for rape victims to enable them speak out when they fall prey to the menace, as most of them were being stigmatised by the community.

“We implore everyone not to stigmatise rape victims so that they can speak out and report rape attempts and cases,” she said.

The Community Sensitization meeting was attended by relevant stakeholders including CDC, Artisan, Groups, all 6 Six Council Chairmen in Alimosho among others.
