Sanwo-Olu charges Political Aides on Commitment, Transparency

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated that residents of the State can only reap the dividends of democracy when political aides understand every aspect of the T.H.E.ME.S development agenda of the current administration, just as he called for unwavering commitment, innovation and transparency from such aides.

Governor Sanwo-Olu spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folashade Jaji, at the flag-off of a two-day induction programme organised for political aides at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos recently.

He said “the induction will enhance your understanding of your roles and responsibilities as political aides as well as acquaint you with the guidelines and procedures in the Public Service”.

The Governor added that the programme with the theme ‘Serving the Public Through Innovation’ was particularly important because some of the aides were new in the Public Service environment, hence the need to inculcate how the system works for proper service delivery and the collective achievement of the vision for Greater Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu noted that one of the core strategies for effective and efficient service delivery to the people was to think out of the box, as such, political aides must develop new ways of doing things to achieve better results through innovation and creativity.

He enjoined aides to be Ambassadors of the present administration by their words and conduct while giving their best efforts to the development of Lagos.

Also speaking at the occasion, Chairman, Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Olubunmi Fabamwo in her presentation entitled “The Importance of Collaborative Engagement in the Civil/Public Service”, explained that the collaboration was one of the four Cs in the 21st century to achieve success and better results.

She spoke on Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving, Communication (spoken, written and behaviour), Collaboration, Creativity and Innovation, noting that proper collaboration assists in solving problems, allows people to learn from one another, opens up new channels and propels people to be result oriented.

She advised against information hoarding, fixed mindset, knowledge deficit and the physical separation which had been identified as impediments to effective collaboration, while also imploring the aides to work collaboratively to achieve the set goals of the present administration.
