Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the release and commutation order for four inmates in State Correctional Centres.

A statement signed by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), explained that the release of one inmate and the commutation order for three other inmates were approved by Governor Sanwo-Olu based on the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

Onigbanjo revealed that the Lagos State Governor had given approval for the release of one convicted inmate, a commutation of the death sentence of two inmates to life imprisonment and the commutation of the life imprisonment of one inmate to 18 years imprisonment.

According to him, the documents of approval signed by Governor Sanwo-Olu have been presented to Correctional Centres in the State for immediate processing.

Recall that Mr. Governor had inaugurated an eight-member State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, headed by Dr. Abayomi Finnih, in December 2019 and had in the year 2020, approved the release of 265 inmates in Correctional Centres in Lagos State
