Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the phone of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, was tapped and that it revealed plans to arrest him, a move he described as politically motivated.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, El-Rufai claimed that the intercepted communication purportedly showed an order to deploy about 50 operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest him at an airport “by all means.”

He further alleged that the matter was linked to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), rather than the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as had been widely speculated.

The former governor also claimed that certain businessmen associated with him were being targeted, maintaining that the pressure against him was political.

In a related development, El-Rufai publicly pledged to honour formal invitations from anti-graft agencies. He stated that he would visit the EFCC on Monday and, depending on his lawyer’s schedule, possibly appear before the ICPC on Tuesday.

As of press time, there has been no official response from the individuals and agencies mentioned in the allegations.

The developments are expected to generate significant public and political interest in the days ahead.
