Rasheed Ogunseye emerges Leader of Ikeja Legislative Council

The 7th Legislative Council of Ikeja Local Government was formally sworn in, with Hon Rasheed Ogunseye of Ward A being proclaimed Leader, during a ceremony conducted by the council’s legal officer, overseen by Executive Chairman Hon Akeem Dauda on Tuesday.

During his address, Hon Dauda congratulated the newly inaugurated councillors and advised them to prioritize transparency, dedication, and public service.

He highlighted the crucial role of unity, cooperation, and a shared vision in advancing Ikeja Local Government’s progress.

Moreover, he encouraged the legislators to foster a strong working relationship with the Executive, stressing that peaceful and collaborative governance is essential for development.

The councillors subsequently elected the following officials;

1. Leader- Hon. Rasheed Ogunseye – Ward A

2. Deputy Leader – Hon. Shakirat Jinadu – Ward B

3. Majority Leader – Hon. Ganiyu Lawal – Ward F

4. Chief Whip – Hon. Idris Opeyemi Salami – Ward D

5. Deputy Majority Leader – Hon. Tunde Folami – Ward E

6. Deputy Chief Whip – Hon. Saburi Obadeyi – Ward C

Following the event, Hon Ogunseye said in a brief interview with Lagos Panorama that he would work towards enacting laws that benefit the people, enhancing democracy’s dividends for residents and indigenes.

He underscored the need for a strong partnership between the legislative and executive arms of government to drive sustainable development in grassroots communities.

Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, encouraged Councillors to adopt effective lawmaking strategies to elevate service delivery and residents’ quality of life.

The event attracted considerable attendance from party leaders, including Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, Pro-Chancellor Federal University of Transportation and a former Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Hon Wahab Owokoniran; Chairman Nigeria Board of Governing Council Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Mayegun Kehinde Akinola; Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC Ikeja LGA, Mayegun Dally Adeokun, former Sole Administrator of the Council, Engr Abiodun Taiwo, along with senior council management staff led by Council Manager, Mrs. Juliana Odubeko.
