President Tinubu declares state of emergency, suspends Fubara from office for six months

President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers state on Tuesday night, citing a disturbing political crisis.

President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers state on Tuesday night, citing a disturbing political crisis.

The President also suspended the Governor, Sim Fubara, his deputy and the members of the State House of Assembly for six months.

President Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibas (Rtd) As Rivers State Administrator.

In a nationwide broadcast, Tinubu accused Governor Siminilayi Fubara of perpetrating the crisis by demolishing the State House of Assembly building.

Tinubu said having made an evaluation of the situation, he has decided to “declare a state of emergency from March 18”

President Tinubu’s decision comes after a meeting with his service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

The meeting, which began at 3pm, included Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.

Furthermore, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu arrived at the Presidential Villa forecourt..
