In a major shake-up aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s national security architecture, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced significant changes in the hierarchy of the nation’s military leadership.

According to a statement signed by Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, the appointments take immediate effect.

Under the new arrangement, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), succeeding General Christopher Musa. Major-General W. Shaibu becomes the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke assumes office as the Chief of Air Staff.

In the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral I. Abbas takes over as the Chief of Naval Staff, replacing the outgoing service chief. Meanwhile, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.

President Tinubu, who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, expressed his deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs — including General Musa — for their patriotic service, professionalism, and dedicated leadership during their tenure.

The President further charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them, strengthen inter-service collaboration, and reinforce the professionalism, vigilance, and unity that define the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement emphasized.
