Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, over alleged assault and car theft.

Portable, who faces a nine-count criminal charge, was brought before the court on Monday. The charges, confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, include assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest.

The singer’s arraignment followed a viral video circulated on Sunday showing him in police custody. The incident is reportedly connected to a complaint filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.

According to the prosecution, Portable allegedly attacked Ashabi, police officers, and other individuals at his bar located in the Iyana Ilogbo area on New Year’s Day. Other victims named in the charge include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.

The police further alleged that Portable unlawfully took a Mercedes-Benz E300, valued at N12 million, from a car dealer identified as Wally Dex Auto. The vehicle was said to belong to Ileyemi Damilola.

During the proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses to the alleged assault, although Ashabi herself was absent from court.

The prosecution also accused the singer of obstructing and assaulting a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.

In his ruling, the presiding judge declined to grant Portable bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge stated that the officer must be present before any decision on bail could be taken.

Portable was consequently remanded in custody, with the court adjourning the matter to January 19 for a fresh hearing on his bail application.
