Police debunk alleged abduction of 20 persons at Kara Bridge

The Ogun State Police Command has debunked claims that 20 persons were kidnapped by bandits at the Kara Bridge, along the Lagos-Ibadan highway.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement available to Lagos Panorama said there was no single incident of kidnapping at the Kara Bridge or anywhere along the Lagos- Ibadan expressway.

Oyeyemi stated that the news circulating across social media platforms is fake and a lie from the pit of hell.

He insisted that those spreading the fake news were mischief makers, who always derive joy in causing unnecessary panic in society.

The Police Spokesperson advised members of the public to go about their normal activities, saying the Commissioner of Police had ordered 24-hour surveillance of the area due to the road construction work going on in that axis.

His words: “The attention of Ogun State Police Command has been drawn to news circulating on social media that 20 people were kidnapped by bandits on Kara Bridge along Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

“In order to dispel the wicked rumour, which is capable of causing panic in the minds of the public, the command wishes to inform the public that the said news is nothing but fake and lies from the pit of hell.

“There is nothing like the kidnapping of one, not to talk of 20 persons, at the Kara Bridge or anywhere along Lagos- Ibadan expressway.

“Those behind the fake news are mere mischief makers, who always derive joy from causing unnecessary panic in the minds of innocent members of the public.

“The general public is hereby advised to discountenance the fake news as nothing of such happened at the said Kara Bridge.

“In view of the road construction work going on in that axis, the commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered 24hrs surveillance patrol of the area to checkmate the activities of hoodlums who might want to take advantage of the traffic jams to perpetrate evils.”
