The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Kosiso Chukwem-Nenyem over alleged bomb threat messages sent to two schools in the Ikeja Government Reserved Area (GRA), Lagos, last week.
The arrest was disclosed as the Command also announced the dismantling of a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate operating across the state, with a total of 21 suspects apprehended in various locations.
It was gathered that at about 4:00 p.m. on January 20, 2026, the Human Resources Manager and the Chief Security Officer of the affected schools separately reported at the Ikeja Divisional Police Headquarters that they had received threatening WhatsApp messages from the same unknown number. The messages claimed that explosive devices had been planted within the school premises.
Briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Moshood Jimoh, said operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) and other tactical teams were immediately deployed to the schools.
According to him, thorough searches were conducted and no explosive devices were found, after which the schools were declared safe.
“Investigations led to the arrest of Kosiso Chukwem-Nenyem, a resident of Okota, who was identified as the sender of the threat messages,” the CP said.
Although the suspect claimed that he lost his phone in November 2025, police investigations revealed that the device continued to receive calls from family members during the period the threats were sent. The SIM card used was also recovered from him.
“This individual acted alone and deliberately attempted to cause panic among parents and school authorities. He will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Jimoh stated.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police disclosed that the Command recovered 25 vehicles in January 2026 alone, including six operational vehicles linked to the dismantled ‘one-chance’ syndicate.
He added that eight more suspects were recently arrested in connection with the syndicate, bringing the total number of suspects to 21, while four additional operational vehicles were also recovered.
